The ministry of heavy industries has asked the Assam government to prepare an inventory of available bamboo in the state and submit a report within three months for the revival of Ashok Paper Mills at Jogighopa in Assam.

GUWAHATI: The ministry of heavy industries has asked the Assam government to prepare an inventory of available bamboo in the state and submit a report within three months for the revival of Ashok Paper Mills at Jogighopa in Assam.
The revival process of Ashok Paper Mill has been initiated. Production at the mill is suspended. Availability of bamboo in adequate quantities would be the mainstay of any revival effort.

Union minister of state for heavy industries Arun Yadav in reply to a question in Rajya Sabha by Kumar Deepak Das on Tuesday said that it was decided by the government to commission techno-economic feasibility study (TEFR) and detailed project report (DPR) for revival of the mill. M/s Sandwell Consultancy Engineers Private Limited, Mumbai was engaged on September 2008 for preparing TEFR.

Sandwell submitted final TEFR on February 10, 2009. TEFR was accepted by government of Assam. Sandwell was asked to prepare draft DPR, which was submitted on May 2009.The production has remained under suspended since 1999.
