Centre and pro talk ULFA faction held peace parley

Pro talk faction of ULFA led by Chetia and Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa had discussion with Centre’s interlocutor AB Mathur in New Delhi.

GUWAHATI: ULFA general secretary, Anup Chetia on Tuesday said that peace talks with Centre has entered crucial stage.

Pro talk faction of ULFA led by Chetia and Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa had discussion with Centre’s interlocutor AB Mathur in New Delhi.

Chetia said, “The talks have entered a crucial stage. The talks lasted for several hours and were fruitful.”


He said, “We have sought protection of land rights of indigenous people.”

The ULFA leadership added that efforts are being made to bring elusive commander in chief Paresh Baruah to the negotiating table.

The pro-talk faction’s demanded scrapping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016. Pro talk leaders earlier had threatened to walk out of the peace process if the bill is not scrapped.

Earlier pro talk faction had submitted charter of demand. The peace talks between ULFA and Centre started in 2011.

ULFA General Secretary, Anup Chetia was extradited to India in November 2015 from Bangladesh. Later he joined the peace process.
