A startling video that shows a woman in a silver santro dropping off a baby girl on the side of a narrow street in Muzaffarnagar has left the whole social media in a gasp.

Posted on twitter by news agency ANI shows the woman abandoning the child on the steps of a house. The shocking incident was caught on CCTV on Wednesday.

The baby girl remains under treatment and is reportedly cirtical. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Muzaffarnagar said, "The new-born is under treatment but her condition remains critical. We are hopeful of her recovery."




Recently a couple from Kerala abandoned their child at a Church to avoid social embarrassment for giving birth to a fourth baby. The 32-year-old man and his wife have since been caught and booked by the police. CCTV of the incident too had gone viral on social media and was aired on various TV channels.

According to the National crime records bureau, a total of 885 child abandonment cases were registered during 2015 as compared to 983 cases during 2014. According to the NCRB report of 2015, Maharashtra has highest number of such cases.

Child abandonment is punishable under section 317 of India’s Penal Code.
