CCPA meet on Thursday on Karnataka crisis
The Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) will meet on Thursday to discuss the Karnataka issue, amid indications that the Centre is considering revocation of President's rule in the state.
The meeting will consider the "comprehensive" report sent on Wednesday night by state Governor Rameshwar Thakur to the Centre on the political situation following the coming together of BJP and JD(S) which have staked claim to form a new government.
The parties had paraded more than 120 MLAs before the Governor on Monday to press their claim.
The CCPA is expected to recommend to the President revocation of the Central rule and revival of the assembly that has been kept under the suspended animation since earlier this month.
Earlier in the day, a high-level delegation of senior BJP leaders met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and demanded that immediate steps be taken to ensure formation of a government in the state.
Led by senior leader L K Advani and party Chief Rajnath Singh, the delegation of BJP MPs told Singh that four days have passed since the BJP-JD(S) combine staked claim for formation of government but Governor Rameshwar Thakur has not yet recommended the revocation of President's rule.
The Prime Minister assured the delegation that the Centre will go "by the spirit of the Constitution but did not give any specific timeframe" regarding lifting of the President's rule.
A Congress Core Group, which met on Wednesday evening, discussed the political situation in the state.
