CBI vs CBI hearing: Judge expresses displeasure in chargesheet filed
NEW DELHI: A special court on Wednesday hauled up the Central Bureau of Investigation for not conducting a lie detector or psychological test on the agency’s former special director, Rakesh Asthana, in an alleged bribery case. The CBI last week gave a clean chit to Asthana.

On Wednesday, the special CBI judge directed Ajay Kumar Bassi, who had initially investigated the case, to appear before the court on February 28. The court questioned the CBI whether Asthana was confronted with other accused, his mobile phones and laptops were examined or the agency had any evidence which disproved the complainant’s statement recorded before a judicial magistrate.

The court had pulled up the CBI last week as well. “Why are certain accused who seem to have a bigger role in the case were roaming free while the CBI arrested its own DSP,” the judge asked last Tuesday. The agency had informed the court that its investigation had found no involvement of Asthana in the alleged bribery case.
