CBI to Send LRs to Switzerland and British Virgin Islands

The CBI is set to send in a week Letters Rogatory to Switzerland and British Virgin Islands to track down the real owners of Belevue.

NEW DELHI: The CBI is set to send in a week Letters Rogatory to Switzerland and British Virgin Islands to track down the real owners of Belevue, the Swiss-based company to which the Reliance Telecom-Delhi Investment-Mavi Investment Fund money trail has led to. And there is a company behind Belevue too, and it is based in the British Virgin Islands.

The CBI’s probe into the identity of the real owners of Delphi Investment — the company to which Reliance Telecom disinvested its 9.9 % stake in December, 2007 — will now head towards Switzerland and the British Virgin Island. That the money trail will culminate in Road Town, the capital of British Virgin Islands, the agency is not too sure.

“It could lead to some other destination. You never know,’’ agency sources said. The CBI, after perusing the documents received from Mauritius on the ownership pattern of 14 companies linked to the scam, got valuable leads on 10 companies aligned with Loop Telecom, two firms linked to Etisalaat DB, and another two related to Reliance Telecom (Delphi Investment & Mavi Investment Fund. Delphi is wholly-owned subsidiary of Mavi. The CBI-ED probe into .`22,000-cr 2G scam, the SC was told, has touched about seven destinations in foreign countries.
