CBI to probe Gyaneshwari Express derailment
The government has decided that CBI will probe the Gyaneshwari Express derailment in West Bengal in which 148 persons were killed, according to sources.
With Centre deciding that CBI will probe the Gyaneshwari Express derailment in West Bengal, Railway minister Mamata Banerjee said investigation by the agency will help the truth to come out.
"I have come to know that the Union Home Ministry has decided to order a CBI investigation into the disaster," Banerjee said.
"Whoever has done it, the culprits should be brought to book. It is a heinous crime. The truth should come out," she said.
Earlier, the West Bengal government, which has ordered a CID investigation into the May 28 rail disaster, had declined to give concurrence to a CBI inquiry after the Union Home Ministry wrote to it. Banerjee, had earlier, alleged that a 'political conspiracy' was behind the mishap.
Union home minister P Chidambaram had said on Monday that the Railways favoured a CBI probe, but the state government's view had not been received.
An official announced in Delhi the Centre's decision to order a CBI probe into the mishap that claimed 148 lives and left over 200 injured.
