CBI to exhume bodies of two minor girls killed in Badaun

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation will exhume the bodies of the two minor girls killed in Badaun as the agency has determined that the autopsy in the controversial case was bungled and needs to be conducted again. A medical board will be constituted for the purpose.

“The autopsy of the girls was done late at night. One of the lady doctors who did the autopsy was doing one for the first time. The findings of the autopsy are not proper-- it says ‘suggestive of rape’, a term which has no meaning in medical jurisprudence. This may give a new twist to the case," a senior CBI official told ET on Tuesday.

“The bodies will be subjected to another autopsy, this time by an experienced panel of doctors from Delhi.”

The officer also termed the case as "very suspicious" and confirmed that the angle of an “honour killing” by the family was also being pursued.

The case acquired immediate political overtones in May as the Samajwadi Party came under fire for the worsening law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh after the girls were found hanged from a tree in Badaun after being allegedly raped by Yadav youths of the village. The case was transferred to the CBI last month. The bodies had been buried as they were minors, a CBI official said.

The CBI is subjecting the parents of both girls to lie-detector tests and also questioning why the mobile phone of one of the girls was destroyed after the murder.
