CBI seeks cancellation of Jaganmohan Reddy's bail

HYDERABAD: The CBI has sought cancellation of YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy's bail in a case of alleged 'quid pro quo investments' by private firms in his company when his father was the state's chief minister.

The Central agency moved the special CBI court last week for cancellation of Reddy's bail accusing him of trying to influence witnesses and thereby violating the terms on which he was given the bail.

The court is likely to hear the matter on April 7, said a senior CBI officer.

According to the charge sheets, Jaganmohan Reddy's firms received investments from various companies when his father, late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, was the chief minister of the united Andhra Pradesh between 2004 and 2009.

These investments were `quid pro quo' for the government favours such as allotment of land or licenses to these firms, the CBI said adding that Jaganmohan, thus, amassed a huge wealth during this period by misusing his father's official position.

Several former ministers and bureaucrats too are accused in the case.

Reddy, currently an MLA from Andhra Pradesh, was released on bail in September 2013 after staying in prison for 15 months following his arrest in May 2012.

While enlarging him on bail, the CBI court had stipulated that he would not directly or indirectly try to influence the witnesses and shall remain present during the proceedings of the case.

The CBI has filed 11 charge sheets and a supplementary charge sheet in the case for which the the trial is going on.
