NEW DELHI: The CBI has registered a case against unknown officials and touts for allegedly forging letters from the Prime Minister's Office in the name of patients for treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

The case was registered after the PMO discovered that some forged letters were being submitted to the AIIMS to secure monetary grant for treatment, official sources said.

According to the sources, the alleged forgery was detected after AIIMS sent a letter to the PMO asking them to refund Rs 30,000 expenses met by a patient during his admission in the hospital.

During preliminary probe, it was found that no such letter existed in the PMO and after that the patient was questioned by security agencies.

The patient told the investigators that he had paid money to the touts, whom he had met outside the AIIMS.

Based on his report, the PMO decided to hand over the case to the CBI for investigations which registered a case under various sections of IPC.
