CBI raids premises of Dayanidhi Maran in connection with the Aircel Maxis deal; stock falls
CBI today raided Maran's residence & office in Chennai after an FIR was registered against him in connection with the Aircel Maxis deal.
The raids were in progress at his Boat Club residence in connection with the Aircel Maxis deal that landed Maran in trouble, compelling him to quit his post in the Union cabinet, they said.
The CBI has also asked the telecommunication department to provide them with technical details of the alleged set-up connecting Sun TV office and Maran's residence.
According to the agency sources, 323 residential lines were in the name of BSNL general manager allegedly connecting the Boat House residence of Maran with the office of Sun TV through a dedicated underground cable during his tenure as telecom minister.
The agency has also booked his brother Kalanithi Maran, Maxis owner T Anandakrishnan, senior executive Ralph Marshall and three companies Aspro, Maxis and Sun TV in the case on charges of criminal conspiracy under IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.
After registering the case, the agency carried out searches at the premises of Maran brothers in Delhi and Chennai.
"CBI has registered case against Maran brothers, Ralph Marshall and T Anandakrishnan and three companies under section 120b of IPC read with 13(2) with 13 (1)(d) and also section 7 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Case was registered on October 9. Searches were conducted at Delhi and Chennai," CBI spokesperson Dharini Mishra said.
Shares of Sun TV Network plunged almost 10% to touch their day's low of Rs 235.05.
At 09:58 a.m., shares of the company were trading 6.7% lower at Rs 243.95 on the Bombay stock Exchange.
