CBI probing benami transactions in Adarsh Society

CBI is probing 'benami' transactions relating to 24 of the 103 flats in Adarsh Housing Society and has sought permission from the court to continue with the investigations into the matter.

MUMBAI: CBI is probing 'benami' transactions relating to 24 of the 103 flats in Adarsh Housing Society and has sought permission from the court to continue with the investigations into the matter.

CBI told the sessions court today that a probe was on to ascertain the actual owners of the 24 flats which the agency claimed to be belonging to two members of the Society who were chargesheeted today.

CBI included Section 3 of Benami Transactions Act on the order of the Bombay High Court on February 17 last year.

According to a CBI statement, the investigation with respect to benami transactions and any other new facts that may emerge during investigation is still continuing and a report will be filed on completion of the investigation.

According to CBI sources, the probe indicated that R C Thakur and former Congress MLC Kanhaiyalal Gidwani owned eight flats each under 'benami' names.

This was the plea taken by the probe agency for extension of their custody when they were arrested earlier in March this year.
