CBI picks up dossier on CWG officials

CBI has taken into custody a thick bunch of documents related to appointment of workforce and consultants from the former's headquarters.

NEW DELHI A day after registering a preliminary enquiry (PE) against `unknown persons’ for the arbitrary manner in which recruitments were made by the CWG Organising Committee, CBI has taken into custody a thick bunch of documents related to appointment of workforce and consultants from the former’s headquarters in the new NDMC building.

A team of CBI sleuths, an official source pointed out, had taken all files and related documents of certain OC officials, including their bio-data, emolument details and terms and conditions of appointments for detailed scrutiny. “They have asked for specific documents of a number of employees. We have handed over it to them,” a senior OC official said. He said that CBI teams had visited the OC headquarters on two consecutive days, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The agency had on Tuesday registered a PE to probe alleged irregularities in the appointment of officials in the Games organising body.

CBI sources said that the PE was lodged after it received several complaints and references from the Central Vigilance Commission claiming violation of norms in the recruitment process and alleged involvement of sacked OC Chairman Suresh Kalmadi, who is at present in judicial custody, and his close aides in the irregularities.

In its PE, CBI has alleged that from 2003 to 2009, some persons were inducted into the OC having no expertise with hefty pay packages. CBI registered 15 cases to look into alleged criminal conspiracy and financial irregularities by various Centre and Delhi Government civic and construction agency officials in carrying out works related to mega sporting event held here between October 3-14 last year.
