CBI names Bihar's deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav in new charge sheet

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a supplementary charge sheet against Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, his father and erstwhile railway minister Lalu Prasad, mother and former CM Rabri Devi and others in the land-for-jobs case.

Tejashwi has been charge sheeted for the first time in the case. According to people in the know, the charge sheet alleges that Tejashwi is also a "beneficiary".

In February, CBI had filed its first supplementary charge sheet against Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi and 14 others under charges of criminal conspiracy and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The agency has so far arrested three people in the case: Bhola Yadav, who was an officer on special duty to Lalu Prasad; Hridayanand Chaudhary, a railway employee and an alleged beneficiary; and Dharmendra Rai, another alleged beneficiary.


ET was the first to report on October 8 that CBI had summoned Sanjay Yadav, Tejashwi's private secretary for questioning in connection with the case.

Special CBI public prosecutor DP Singh, while filing the fresh supplementary charge sheet on Monday, told the court that the alleged act, involving Tejashwi, was committed with a different modus operandi. Tejashwi was questioned by CBI in March. His sister Misa Bharti was also questioned by ED in March.

Tejashwi had petitioned high court in March, challenging the summons. CBI had assured the court that it is not contemplating arresting Tejashwi "this month" (March). Significantly, the CBI counsel had told the court that the agency was ready with its supplementary charge sheet and will shortly file the same. The CBI had filed its first charge sheet in the case last October.
