CBI-Kolkata police face-off: 5 top cop to face government action
According to Ministry of Home Affairs sources, the government is planning to withdraw the medals given to these police officers for meritorious services.

NEW DELHI: Mounting pressure on West Bengal to act against senior police officers, who “participated” in the dharna held under the leadership of chief minister Mamata Banerjee, the ministry of home affairs has asked the state to punish five more top cops for “violating” All India Service conduct rules.
The fresh directive comes a day after the ministry had sought action against Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar for similar serious breach of conduct.
Top level MHA sources said the “central government has taken a dim view of serving officers of uniformed forces taking part in sitting protest” on February 4. The ministry has specifically asked the Trinamool Congress regime to initiate action against Director General of West Bengal Police Virendra Kumar, Additional Director General Vineet Kumar Goyal, Additional Director General (law and order) Anuj Sharma and Commissioner of Police Bidhannagar Gyanwant Singh for joining the protest, which is in violation of the All India Service Conduct Rules.
But for Anuj Sharma, the rest are IPS officers. The ministry has warned the state that it also considering a number of measures such as withdrawal of medal or decoration conferred on them for meritorious services, said MHA sources . On Tuesday, the ministry had written to the state chief secretary demanding action against Rajeev Kumar, citing his “indisciplined behaviour” which it said was a "violation of All India Services (conduct) Rules, 1968/AIS (D&A) Rules, 1969.
