NEW DELHI: The CBI filed charges on Saturday against former telecom minister A Raja and other individuals for their role in the 2G spectrum scandal, alleging that it caused a loss of `30,984.56 crore to the
exchequer, CBI tells court.

The CBI charge sheet filed in a special court arrived in seven steel trunks and runs into 80,000 pages. CBI officials brought Raja to court.

Earlier, the CBI had informed the Supreme Court that telecom companies — Swan Telecom and Loop Telecom — were used as front companies by established telecom players to get 2G spectrum illegally during the tenure of Raja.

Government lawyer KK Venugopal had told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that the CBI will file charges on Saturday. The CBI investigation so far has largely focused on the change in the cut-of date and the allegation that some applicants were informed about this change before it became public.
