CBI dubs Talwar an accused in Aarushi case

Calling Rajesh Talwar an "accused'' in the twin murder of his daughter 14-year-old Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj in 2008, the CBI on Friday objected in court to his plea seeking a copy of the closure report.

GHAZIABAD: Calling Rajesh Talwar an "accused'' in the twin murder of his daughter 14-year-old Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj in 2008, the CBI on Friday objected in court to his plea seeking a copy of the closure report in the case filed by the agency. "He is an accused in the case. He should not be given a copy of the closure report,'' CBI counsel R K Saini told a special Ghaziabad court.

The word "accused" drew strong reaction from both the court and the Talwars – Rajesh and wife Nupur – who were present there. Seeking an explanation on the use of the term, special CBI judge Preeti Singh asked the CBI counsel whether the agency had filed a chargesheet in the case in which Talwar was made an "accused''.

To this, the CBI counsel said, "It is up to the court to reject the closure report, take cognizance or give directions to conduct further investigation. If the court feels that the case can be closed, then it can issue notice to the informants."
