CBI Director-designate calls on Home Minister, Home Secy

Verma is expected to take over the charge of Director of CBI only after January 26 as he, as Commissioner of Delhi Police, is at the helm of affairs of the security arrangements for the Republic Day celebration in the national capital.

NEW DELHI: A day after his appointment as Director of CBI, Alok Kumar Verma called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi here today.

The CBI Director-designate's meetings with the Home Minister and Home Secretary were courtesy calls and they exchanged pleasantries only, sources said.

Verma is expected to take over the charge of Director of CBI only after January 26 as he, as Commissioner of Delhi Police, is at the helm of affairs of the security arrangements for the Republic Day celebration in the national capital.


As CBI chief, Verma will have a fixed two-year tenure.

His name was cleared by a three-member selection panel headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and comprising Chief Justice of India Jagdish Singh Khehar and Congress leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge as members.
