The Congress claimed that CBI had found no role of ex-Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh in the case of collecting Rs 100 crore raised by former police commissioner Param Bir Singh but the report was 'overrode' as part of a 'conspiracy'. The statement was made by Maharashtra Congress' Sachin Sawant who demanded a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the CBI report and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take responsibility and resign.

After a preliminary enquiry by the CBI, an FIR was registered against Anil Deshmukh and some others on charges of corruption on April 24th. The ex-Maharashtra Police Commissioner accused Deshmukh of asking police officers to collect Rs 100 crore per month from bars and restaurants. Deshmukh has denied the allegations but resigned after the enquiry.

"The Investigation Officer of the CBI in the PE had concluded that there is no role of Anil Deshmukh ji in the so called Rs 100 cr collection allegation by former CP Parambir Singh and had closed the inquiry," Sawant tweeted.

Deshmukh is a senior leader of the NCP. He has called the inquiry 'illegal' as the Central probe agency did not seek sanction from the state government before prosecuting him.

Congress spokesperson Sawant has called the probe a 'conspiracy' by the Modi government to target Deshmukh and defame the MVA.
