Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to take strict action against former commissioner of Kolkata Police Rajeev Kumar after he failed to appear before the investigators on Monday. It is learnt that the agency is planning legal actions, including moving the court to issue an warrant and also appealing to declare Kumar an ‘absconder’ under Section 82 of the CRPC.

The Section 82 of CRPC states that if any court has reasons to believe that any person against whom an warrant has been issued by it has been absconding or is concealing himself so that such an warrant cannot be executed, then such a court may publish a written proclamation requiring him to appear at a specified place and at a specified time not less than 30 days from the date of publishing of such a proclamation. The former CP has been reinstated as the additional director general (ADG), CID, on Sunday.
