CBI charges Indrani Mukherjea with murder

NEW DELHI: Ten days after taking over the Sheena Bora muder case, CBI on Tuesday slapped sections under arms act and destruction of evidence against Indrani Mukherjea, her ex-husband Sanjay Khanna and former driver Shyamvar Pinturam Rai. The CBI now plans to take custody of Indrani to recreate the sequence of events that led to the crime. The agency has also sought the forensic reports from the Maharashtra police that they say have helped to establish the identity of Sheena.

Besides arms act, the agency also filed cases under various sections of Indian Penal Code including criminal conspiracy, murder, abduction, destruction of evidence, causing hurt by giving poison. A CBI spokesperson said, "The CBI took over the investigation of the case which was earlier registered by Mumbai Police on the allegations that accused persons hatched a criminal conspiracy to murder Sheena and in pursuance of the said criminal conspiracy, the accused persons allegedly abducted her, murdered her and disposed off her body."
