CBI books HAL employees in Rs 13.28 crore fraud

The agency registered five FIRs against Mitra and other employees of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Koraput on Tuesday.

Based on these complaints, the agency has registered fresh cases against Mitra, other staff members and private persons allegedly involved in the scam.
BHUBANESWAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered fresh FIRs against some employees of Hindustan Aeronautics LimitedKoraput division in connection to alleged graft to the tune of Rs 13 crores between 2013 and 2017.

A senior manager of the finance department, Bhabhen Maitra, and a few other junior employees in the department are accused of cheating the public sector company, which makes MIG engines at Koraput, by making illegal payments to private contractors.

The allegation against them, first made by the PSU’s vigilance wing, was of having of signed off cheque amounts beyond authorisation, of forging documents and misappropriating funds to the tunes in crores since 2013.


While the defence sector PSU had come across these acts of corruption on its own, and even had a few of the private beneficiary contractors arrested, the CBI decided to investigate the matter later and had already registered a case last October.
