CBI arrests main accused in Jairam Ramesh forgery case

The CBI on Tuesday arrested an accused wanted in connection with forging the letter head of former Union minister and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.

NEW DELHI: The CBI on Tuesday arrested an accused wanted in connection with forging the letter head of former Union minister and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh. The accused identified as Tarun Kumar was arrested with help of Bihar police, said CBI.

According to CBI, Kumar was declared absconder in a CBI case. After his arrest, a court in Kolkata granted him 14 days' of police custody. A reward of 50,000 rupees had been announced by Cbi for his apprehension.

The former union minister had alleged that his letter heads and signatures were forged for confirmation of wait listed railways tickets in 2012. The agency had registered a case then declared a reward. Kumar was absconding for the past 2 and a half years.

The agency said that they are questioning Kumar to understand who all were involved in forging of letter head and signature. Sleuths suspect that an insider might have helped kumar obtain the imitation of letter heads and signature.

The agency also plans to question Kumar regarding his whereabout in the past two and half years.
