CBI arrests conmen running fake NREGA web sites
CBI has arrested two persons on the charge of running fake websites in the names of government organizations like NREGA.
The agency has registered a case against the duo under sections relating to criminal conspiracy, cheating and other relevant provisions of Information Technology Act and the State Emblem of India Act, 2005, a CBI spokesperson said here.
"It was alleged that the accused persons used to create websites with national emblem on it appearing to be government websites and advertised and invited applications for various types of jobs and alluring people to deposit money in the form of fee for such posts.
"The money received in smaller amounts from a large number of people was then withdrawn through bank accounts based in Delhi," she said in a statement.
The agency in its probe has found that after running the office or website for three four months, the accused used to change the address and get fresh identity.
"It has also come to notice that most of the persons cheated or allured are from Jharkhand and West Bengal," the spokesperson said.
