Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Friday that the government would move an appeal at the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) against the order of the Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee (CWRC) to release one tmc ft of water to Tamil Nadu every day from July 12. The government has called an all party meeting on July 14 to decide on the next step.

The CM briefed the media about the government's stand after a meeting with ministers and senior officials at his home office.

The government would invite union ministers, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members and MLAs of the Cauvery basin area.

The CWRC on Thursday asked Karnataka to ensure it released one tmc ft of water at Biligundle every day till July 31, rejecting the State's plea to defer any decision till July 25. The order has triggered protests in Mandya as farmers have opposed release of any water, putting intense pressure on the ruling Congress.

Between June 1, 2024, and July 9, 2024, the total inflow into four reservoirs in Karnataka was 41.651 tmc ft, which is 28.71 % deficit when compared to average inflow in the period of previous years, the state submitted to the CWRC.
