Cases rise by 9,971, India now fifth worst-affected

As per the latest data, the 10 states with highest confirmed incidences together account for 84% of the total cases and 95% of the deaths. These states are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, UP, MP, West Bengal, Karnataka and Bihar.

India's Covid-19 cases rose by 9,971 in the past 24 hours to reach 2,46,628, according to latest data from Union Health ministry.

As of 8 am, fatalities stand at 6,929, and the number of the cured/discharged at 1,19,293.

India’s total case count went past Spain’s yesterday, making it the fifth worst-affected country in the world. Only the US, Brazil, Russia and the UK are ahead of India now.


The death toll in India, however, is far lower than what it was for Brazil, Spain and the UK at the same stage of the pandemic. Only Russia and the US had a lower toll at the comparable stage.
