FALLUJAH: TWO suicide car bombs, including a truck carrying Chlorine toxic gas, struck a US base in Fallujah City on Wednesday, 50 km west of Baghdad, killing eight Iraqi policemen and wounding more than 20 people, police said. A suicide bomber drove an explosives-laden car into the checkpoint on the main gate of a US military base in central city and blew it up at about 9 am, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

A few minutes later, another suicide bomber drove a booby-trapped truck carrying Chlorine gas into the same entrance to the base and blew it up, causing a powerful explosion and sending a cloud of toxic gas. Eight Iraqi policemen were killed at the checkpoint and at least 20 were wounded. The number of US soldiers killed or wounded in the blasts was not immediately available. The US troops cordoned of the scene while US helicopters flew over the area, the source said. Insurgents launched several chlorine attacks as a new tactic to confront the ongoing crackdown.

aimed at curbing insurgency and quell violence in the war-torn country. The Sunni-dominated Fallujah has frequently witnessed insurgent attacks against the US and Iraqi government forces despite US-Iraqi military operations in the city to stamp out insurgency and hunting foreign fighters.
