Captain Amarinder Singh’s team to meet Sonia Gandhi
Amarinder Singh’s camp, which is leading a revolt, on Tuesday intensified pressure on party leadership to replace PS Bajwa with the former CM.

On Tuesday, more than a dozen presidents of the District Congress Committees (DCCs) of the state met party vice president Rahul Gandhi, who had handpicked Bajwa as PCC president, and conveyed what majority of the party MLAs have already told him in two separate meetings: that they want Singh as party leader in the election-bound state.
Parallel to this show of strength, Singh has sought a meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi even as the All India Congress Committee is set to finalise its choice to head the state Congress.
The AICC managers are particularly alert about the fact the majority of party MLAs and DCC presidents chose to openly voice their support for Singh despite the latter’s recent public criticism of the Congress vice president’s style of functioning.
Sources said even those leaders from outside the Singh camp— mostly the supporters of Rajinder Kaur Bhattal—also chose to be less vocal in opposing Singh’s candidature.
