Can't snatch rights in name of SIR, says Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata: Urging Bengalis not to forget their "motherland and mother tongue", West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on the eve of Independence Day on Thursday that no one has the right to snatch anyone's independence and rights in the name of SIR or NRC and vowed to fight it till her last breath. Banerjee, hinting at BJP, claimed that "those who shout about CAA, there is an attempt by them to implement NRC in the name of SIR."

"I am launching my protest ahead of Independence Day. I will fight it till my last breath and not allow the rights of people to be snatched," Banerjee said as she participated at a programme ahead of Independence Day in Kolkata. "We never wanted this independence. We know a country which talks about unity and inclusiveness. Why will you torture the migrants in other state," Banerjee questioned.

On Bangladeshis in India, she said, "if someone is a foreigner, action must be taken against them by the Centre" and that the matter is not under her jurisdiction.
