Campaign vehicle getting ready for political leaders

COIMBATORE: With one month left for Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, a campaign vehicle fitted with hydraulic lift, is being given finishing touches in a upholstery and car acceessories workshop here for AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa.

The vehicle, a white tempo traveller, has a built-in-audio system, with two loud speakers and additional spotlights and hydraulic lift would help Jayalalithaa to get her on top of the vehicle to address the crowd, according to P V Riyas, one of the partners of the workshop Koyas.

There would be a revolving chair in front for Jayalalithaa, besides special seats to accommodate four persons, Riyas said.

A toilet and wash basin have also being provided in the vehicle, he said.

Though the amount being spent on refurbishing the vehicle would be between Rs five lakh to Rs 10 lakh for each vehicle, depending on the facilities and attachments, he said.

A comfortable central-airconditioned vehicle would have the facility like small sized modular kitchen, fridge, microwave, home threatre and dish TV and toilet, Riyaz said.

The workshop shot into fame, when late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi airlifted two Ambassadar cars to get refurbished way back in 1980, after experiencing the comfort of the car used by former Kerala Chief Minster K Karunakaran.

With regard to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, he said the vehicle he had used for the last assembly and Lok Sabha polls was already refurbished and sent some three months ago, he said.

Koyas had already dispatched campaign vehicles made ready for Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin, PMK leader S Ramadoss, DMDK chief Vijayakanth and TNCC president K V Thangkabalu.
