CAG report on MNREGA, Devas deal likely in winter session

Four audit reports by CAG, including a status check of government's flagship program MNREGA and report on controversial Antrix-Devas deal, are likely to come out during the winter session of Parliament.

NEW DELHI: Four audit reports by country's apex auditor CAG, including a status check of government's flagship program MNREGA and report on controversial Antrix-Devas deal, are likely to come out during the winter session of Parliament.

The other major audit reports, lined up for the next session, deal with pulses subsidy and National Rural Health Mission, a source said.

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) is in the process of scrutinising the performance of the government-run social sector schemes like NRHM and MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) and would be finalising its report shortly.

The source said that the government's flagship programme MNREGA is also in the process of being audited by the official auditor CAG. Social sector scheme MNREGA gets the maximum funding from the government.

As per the budget allocation, the rural development ministry gets the maximum fund allocation after the defence ministry.

"The CAG audit of the MNREGA was requested by the Rural Development Ministry. The report is in the drafting stage and would be ready by Winter Session," he added.

There was a controversy over the deal for handing over 70 Mhz of S-Band spectrum by ISRO's commercial arm Antrix to private firm Devas.
