Cabinet secretary KM Chandrasekhar has been given a year’s extension, dashing the hopes of many IAS officers. 1970-batch IAS officer from Kerala cadre, Chandrasekhar has already completed two years in the post.

NEW DELHI: Cabinet secretary KM Chandrasekhar has been given a year���s extension, dashing the hopes of many IAS officers. 1970-batch IAS officer from Kerala cadre, Chandrasekhar has already completed two years in the post. His predecessor BK Chaturvedi, too, had a three-year stint as the Cabinet secretary.

Labour secretary Sudha Pillai was a contender for the post. Ms Sudha Pillai tops the seniority list of the IAS
officers of the 1972 batch. Incidentally her husband GK Pillai, who belongs to the same batch of IAS officers, also figures next in the seniority list.

Secretary to PMO MN Prasad, information and broadcasting secretary Ms Sushma Singh and urban development secretary M Ramachandran, too, belong to the 1972 batch.
