The Karnataka Cabinet will discuss the rules notified under the Citizenship (amendment) Act on Thursday and take a stand, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Wednesday while attacking the NDA regime for notifying the rules when the Lok Sabha elections are round the corner.

The CAA rules had been notified with an eye on the elections, the CM told the media at Udupi. The BJP, he added, had resorted to the gimmick as it was gripped by fears of losing the election.

He was critical of the NDA government for what he called "keeping mum all these years" on implementing the law and seeking to implement it around the time of elections.

Home Minister Parameshwara said the Cabinet will have to take a view on whether Karnataka should accept or reject the CAA rules.
Sections of organisations held demonstrations in Bengaluru on Wednesday opposing implementation of the CAA rules.
