CA, players agree to two Aussies in one IPL franchise
If the top Australian players are indeed cleared to play in the Indian Premier League, not more than two may play for one franchise in the lucrative twenty20 competition.
Of the many clauses in the memorandum of understanding agreed between Cricket Australia and the players, which must not clash with the IPL, one is the number of Australian players able to join each of the eight IPL franchises, 'The Australian' reported.
The limit has been imposed to preserve the integrity of the national and state teams, the paper said.
The eight franchises can sign up to six overseas players and can have four in the team at any one time.
Most of Australia's top players are unlikely to be able to play in the first two years of the IPL because of tour commitments.
But even so, if they sign up and are in the player auction, they can still receive a retainer worth up to 300,000 dollars.
The IPL is scheduled to begin on April 18, with the players required in India a week earlier.
