Kolkata | Chennai | Guwahati: Amid complaints about "vote chori" and demands for a repoll, 79.39% polling was recorded in Nandigram and 78.42% in the Rejinagar assembly bypolls till 5 pm on Tuesday. The Congress has demanded repoll in Nandigram and Rejinagar alleging "vote chori" and "intimidation" in both the bypolls.

Aam Janata Unnayan Party founder Humayun Kabir was arrested by the police in Murshidabad's Rejinagar on Tuesday following interference in the voting and threats to the police. Kabir's son, Gulam Nabi Azad, is the AJUP candidate from Rejinagar in Murshidabad district of West Bengal.

Polling also took place in Madurantakam in Chengalpattu district and Dharapuram in Tirupur of Tamil Nadu. Madurantakam saw voter turnout of 83.86% while Dharapuram saw 78.53% voting till 5 pm on Tuesday.


In Assam, voting took place for the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat where 76% polling was recorded till 5 pm. The by-poll took place after sitting MP, Pradyut Bordoloi, resigned and left the Congress. Polling was also held for Thattanchavady assembly seat in Puducherry. Around 79% polling was recorded till 5 pm.

Results will be announced on October 9.
