The BJP bolstered its footprint in the Northeast and Gujarat as it secured decisive victories in Nagaland's Koridang and Tripura's Dharmanagar in the recently concluded by-polls. In Nagaland, BJP's Daochier I. Imchen won the by-election to the Koridang constituency and in Tripura, BJP's Jahar Chakraborti clinched a win in the Assembly by-election to the Dharmanagar constituency. In Gujarat's Umreth, BJP candidate Harshad Parmar registered a victory with more than 30,000 votes.

There was some relief for Congress in Karnataka's Bagalkot assembly seat where its candidate Umesh Meti won by more than 20,000 votes, the data from the ECI showed.

The counting of votes is underway for assembly seats in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat. The constituencies where the results for bypolls elections will be declared today are: Bagalkot and Davanagere South in Karnataka, Baramati and Rahuri in Maharashtra, Koridang in Nagaland, Dharmanagar in Tripura, and Umreth in Gujarat.

Can Sunetra Pawar win Baramati?

In Baramati, Sunetra Pawar has taken a decisive lead and is poised to win the Baramati assembly bypoll, the ECI data showed. Sunetra Pawar, who heads the NCP, bagged more than 1 lakh votes at the end of the 13th round of counting.

"None of us wanted to have such an election. There has also been an unfortunate incident in neighbouring Bhor tehsil (where a four-year-old child was raped and murdered). We do not wish to celebrate this victory," Jay Pawar told reporters in Baramati.

The bypoll election in Maharashtra's Baramati is keenly-watched and the poll was necessitated after the then Deputy CM and Nationalist Congress Party president Ajit Pawar died in a plane crash on January 28. His wife Sunetra Pawar is contesting her first assembly election. According to the Election Commission of India, the trends at 12 noon show Sunetra Pawar is leading in Baramati with more than 75,000 votes as of 1 pm.

It is expected for Sunetra Pawar to get a comfortable victory as no major political party has fielded a candidate against her. NCP has a stronghold in the Baramati region which might give her an advantage. A voter turnout of 58.27 per cent was recorded in the Baramati assembly constituency.

Rahuri assembly seat bypoll result 2026

In Maharashtra's Rahuri in Ahilyanagar district, a bypoll was necessary after the death of BJP MLA Shivaji Kardile in October last year. His son Akshay Kardile contested the bypoll as a BJP candidate. His rivals include NCP (SP) nominee Govind Mokate and Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi's Santosh Chalke. In Rahuri too, BJP's Akshay Kardile was ahead of his rivals, as per trends available so far on the Election Commission's website. Akshay Kardile is heading for a massive win in Rahuri and is leading with more than 72,000 votes, the ECI data showed.

Karnataka bypoll election results 2026

The keenly watched contests will be assembly seats in Karnataka's Bagalkot and Davanagere South which voted on April 9. Counting of votes for by-polls to two assembly segments in Karnataka -- Bagalkot and Davanagere South-- began at 8 am on Monday. In Davanagere South, Congress' SS Mallikarjun is leading with more than 7,000 votes in a big setback to BJP.

In Davanagere South, bypolls polls were necessitated by the deaths of senior Congress MLAs H Y Meti (Bagalkot) and Shamanur Shivashankarappa. According to the Election Commission of India, the voter turnout here was 68.43 per cent.

The BJP fielded a fresh face, Srinivas T Dasakariyappa, from Davanagere South. The Congress gave tickets to family members of the late legislator. Samarth Mallikarjun from Davanagere South is the grandson of Shamanur Shivashankarappa. Samarth's father, S S Mallikarjun, is a minister in the Siddaramaiah-led Cabinet and in charge of Davanagere district, while his mother, Prabha Mallikarjun, is a Member of Parliament from the region.

Bagalkot results

In Bagalkot, the BJP has fielded former MLA and 2023 defeated candidate Veerabhadrayya Charantimath. He is pitted against Congress' Umesh Meti, the son of H Y Meti in Bagalkot. Umesh Meti is leading as per early trends, the ECI data shows. In Bagalkot, there is some good news for Congress as the party has taken a strong early lead. According to the Election Commission, Congress party's Umesh Meti won won by more than 20,000 votes.

In the 2023 Assembly elections, H Y Meti defeated BJP's Charantimath by a margin of 5,878 votes in Bagalkot, while Shivashankarappa defeated BJP's B G Ajay Kumar by 27,888 votes in Davanagere South.

Gujarat bypoll results 2026

Counting of votes for the byelection to the Umreth assembly seat in Gujarat was underway on Monday amid tight security. The bypoll, held on April 23, was necessitated following the death of the then-sitting BJP MLA Govind Parmar. The main fight is between BJP nominee Harshad Parmar, son of the late MLA, has won in Umreth by more than 30,000 votes.

Harshad Parmar is the son of four-term MLA Govind Parmar, who died on March 6 at the age of 72 after a brief illness. It is the first major election for Harshad Parmar. Congress nominee Bhrugurajsinh Chauhan, a 62-year-old seasoned local leader, also contested his first assembly election.

Bypoll election results in Nagaland 2026

Vote counting for Koridang Assembly Constituency bypoll in Nagaland began at 8 am on Monday. Bypoll was held after the death of sitting BJP MLA Imkong L Imchen in November. BJP's Daochier I Imchen wins bypoll to Koridang assembly seat in Nagaland by more than 3,000 votes.

NPP: I Abenjang

Independents: Imchatoba Imchen, Imtiwapang, Toshikaba

Tripura bypoll election results 2026

BJP secured a big win in the Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency in Tripura as the party candidate, Jahar Chakraborti, won the bypoll election by more than 18,000 votes, the Election Commission of India's data showed. He defeated CPI(M)'s candidate Amitabha Datta and Congress candidate Chayan Bhattacharya.

The bypoll held after the death of Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen in December 2025.
