PATNA: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev today charged the Congress with "lowering dignity" of the President's post by nominating Pranab Mukherjee as its candidate for the top constitutional post of the country.

"The Congress and the UPA government has lowered the dignity of the President's post by nominating Mukherjee as its candidate for the top post," he told reporters in reply to a question.

"The President's post is a respectable constitutional post and everybody should strive to ensure its sanctity," he said.

Ramdev made the remarks in reply to a question whether the Congress-led UPA government tried to lower the dignity of the President's post by nominating Mukherjee as its candidate in the wake of his failure to deal with the economy amid spirally price rise and inflation, besides his stand on the black money issue.
