Buzz around Captain Amarinder, rumours afoot regarding plot over farm laws

Captain Amarinder Singh made his first trip to the national capital after quitting as Punjab chief minister by relishing the resignation drama of his rival Navjot Singh Sidhu. Despite calling it a personal visit, political circles are abuzz that he may script a big plot centred around the contentious farms laws.

Singh's arrival to Delhi created 'news breaks' on his likely meetings with home minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda. His team dismissed them as rumours but speculation over his next move was so much that Congress leaders were divided on what could happen next. Some advocated that 'Sidhu-mauled Gandhis' should reach out to Singh or invite him to 10 Janpath, with an SoS, while some others said Sonia Gandhi should be prepared for his resignation from the Congress anytime.

"I am not going to meet any politician here. I am here to vacate the Kapurthala House (Punjab CM's official residence) in Delhi. I will go home after that. Nothing else," Singh told journalists.


However, political circles speculate that Singh would explore a new political innings by making a plank out of the contentious farm laws. If Singh could use his stature and track-record as the CM and manage to get the laws withdrawn, which the Congress has failed to, he would be opening a new front in Punjab against the Congress. And if he proves to be more effective than the Congress in persuading the Centre on the farm laws, the politics of Punjab could take a dramatic turn ahead of polls.
