Bust of Kargil war martyr Captain Clifford K Nongrum unveiled in Shillong

Capt Nongrum is the first and the only person in Meghalaya to have been awarded the second highest gallantry award, 'Maha Vir Chakra' posthumously.

SHILLONG: A bust of Kargil war martyr Capt Clifford K Nongrum was today unveiled at the Rhino Museum here by Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment Colonel, Lt Gen R N Nair.

Capt Nongrum is the first and the only person in Meghalaya to have been awarded the second highest gallantry award, ' Maha Vir Chakra' for bravery posthumously.

Proud parents of Nongrum were present at the function which was attended by a host of civil and military dignitaries.

A brief life history of Nongrum was read out and especially how he led his column to capture an important position, point 4812, in the Batalik sector of Jammu and Kashmir on June 1, 1999.

He graduated from the Officers Training Academy in 1996, Chennai (OTA)and later was commissioned into the 12th Jammu And Kashmir Light Infantry.
