As Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee prepares for yet another tightrope walk in the form of the 2012/13 budget (his 7th), the following officials will try and ensure that he does not fall into the ravines of high inflation and fiscal over-reach, while holding tight the safety net of growth

R S Gujral, Finance Secretary & Secretary, Department of Revenue
This former roads and transport secretary created a flutter with his appointment as finance secretary because his name was not in the reckoning initially. One of his key tasks will be to coordinate the budget preparation and ensure that adequate funds are available to finance the government’s key social sector schemes
