Vote counting for the Budgam assembly bypoll is underway. This closely watched election is a key test for Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's government. The results will offer insights into public sentiment in central Kashmir. The bypoll was held afte...

The bypoll, held on Tuesday, November 11, saw a turnout slightly below last year’s assembly elections, which had recorded 52.27%.
| Name | Party | Result |
| Aga Syed Mehmood | NC | awaited |
| Aga Muntazir | PDP | awaited |
| Syed Mohsin | BJP | awaited |
Polling in Budgam remained largely peaceful, with around 1.26 lakh registered voters turning out.
The bypoll is being seen as a crucial test for Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s government and his party, the National Conference (NC). The election was necessitated after Abdullah vacated the Budgam seat following his win from his family stronghold of Ganderbal in last year’s assembly elections.
A traditional NC bastion since 1962, Budgam has largely remained under the party’s dominance, except for a lone Congress victory in 1972. NC’s Srinagar MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi had represented the constituency for three consecutive terms — 2002, 2008, and 2014 — before Omar Abdullah secured a win in 2024.
As counting continues under tight security, the results are expected to reflect not only the public sentiment in central Kashmir but also act as a barometer of the Omar Abdullah-led government’s performance in its first year in office.
