Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee admits to govt's mistakes, talks of correction
WB chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee used the late Subhas Chakraborty's condolence meeting as a platform to give a clear message to the people that the Left parties and their government had started correcting their past mistakes.
The CPIM had organised a condolence meeting for its departed leader and former transport minister at the Netaji Indoor stadium on Friday. Addressing the gathering Bhattacharjee said, "A new situation has developed in West Bengal. Some are talking about bringing a change in the state."
Without naming the opposition Trinamool Congress which has gained ground in West Bengal substantially after the Lok Sabha elections, the chief minister said "those who are talking about bringing about a change in West Bengal, perhaps think that the state will take a Rightist turn.
But I can tell you that there is no alternative to Leftism in our state. Will it be possible for the people to accept a change which will be guided by the Rightist forces?," asked the chief minister.
Acknowledging that the Leftists in West Bengal had committeed mistakes in the past, the chief minister said: "Maybe we have made mistakes. But we have started rectifying them. It is the Leftists who only can admit any mistake committed by them and rectify those."
Reminding everyone of the late Subhas Chakraborty's "strange capability" to mix with people from all walks of life, Bhattacharjee said that "we have to reach out to the people of our state and Chakraborty had a special expertise in this. I never thought we have to hold a gathering to condole his demise. His death is untimely and premature.
We were not ready for it," Bhattacharjee said in presence of all Left Front leaders and Chakraborty's widow Ramola Chakraborty. Congress leaders like Manas Bhunia, Subrata Mukherjee also attended the condolence meeting.
The chief minister also exhorted the gathering to take to the streets on August 31 when the CPIM would hold a mammoth rally at the same venue where Mamata Banerjee had organised her impressive show on July 21.
"We will be on the streets on August 31 and we will make the show a resounding success," Bhattacharjee said, hinting that the CPIM's gathering on August 31 will be much more larger than that of the Trinamool's.
