BSP eyes 40-60 Assembly seats in Karnataka
Aiming to win 40 to 60 seats in the May assembly elections the BSP is making a determined bid to make a major headway in Karnataka.
BSP chief Mayawati is scheduled to address eight public meetings in the state, which goes to the polls in three phases on May 10, 16 and 22.
"The party secured 1.7 per cent votes polled in the last elections and this time it will be in double digits," says party general secretary P G R Sindhia, a former minister.
Sindhia, who has just returned here after addressing 40 public meetings in eight districts over the last ten days, says there is an "unseen, invisible BSP wave" in the state.
The BSP has fielded candidates in all the 224 Assembly constituencies and given tickets to dominant communities of Lingayats and Vokkaligas, and Brahmins in good numbers besides Dalits, Muslims, and most backward classes, Sindhia said.
"I think no party will get a majority. Without BSP, no party will be in a position to form a government," he said.
"The BSP will not only open its account (in Karnataka), we are confident of winning in 40 to 60 constituencies".
According to him, Mayawati's 'acceptability' by the people was growing by the day in Karnataka. "The Congress is scared that it might be pushed to the third place because of the BSP's presence," he added.
