KOLKATA: In last one and half months, the Border Security Force has seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) of the face value of Rs 37,14,000 from Malda and south Bengal region. With a constant rise in circulation and smuggling of FICN in the region, Sandeep Salunkhe, IG, BSF has issued operational guidelines for strengthening border domination in the sensitive areas.

“The guidelines were communicated to the commanders in charge of operations. The field commanders were briefed and they would ensure implementation of these instructions to maintain extra vigil on border to thwart the attempts of smugglers and anti-national elements. Tactical operations are being mounted to foil the attempts of the smugglers,” said a senior official of BSF. In recent operations, BSF arrested six FICN racketeers.

Based on the inputs gleaned from FICN Racketeer Suzal Sheikh, who was apprehended on February 12 with FICN worth Rs,13,49,000 and other sources, an intensive search operation was launched in Daulatpur in Malda. The special search tea, on Saturday, recovered a blue bag containing some bundles wrapped with plastic hidden in high wild growth bushes. Consignments of FICN worth Rs10 lakh and two Bangladesh SIM Cards were seized from the bags.
“In last two days, we could seize FICN worth Rs 24 lakh and handed it over to the local police station,” added the official.
