Shah was in Poonch to meet the victims of the shelling during the recent India-Pakistan military conflict in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam attack, in which terrorists killed 25 Indians and one Nepalese citizen.
He said, "After Pahalgam terror attack on innocent pilgrims, we destroyed terrorist bases in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan. For the first time, Indian forces demolished the headquarters of terrorist organisations located within Pakistan's borders." Shah said PM Narendra Modi stands firm on the policy that talks and terror, trade and terror, and blood and water cannot flow together.
Shah arrived in Jammu on Thursday evening, when he chaired a security review meeting focusing on the upcoming 52-day long Amarnath Yatra starting on July 3. He also met the families of the victims of the recent shelling, distributed appointment letters for government jobs to the next of kin and also promised a central government package soon for the victims of shelling.
Shah said, "We did not target any army installation in Pakistan. Not a single Pakistani citizen was killed." He said India targeted terrorists, but Pakistan considered it an attack on the country and this proved to the world that they support and provide space to terrorists. "They have made Pakistan a safe haven for terrorists."
"For the first time since independence, Poonch witnessed this kind of shelling. And in other places, civilian areas, gurudwara, mandirs and madrasas were targeted by Pakistan, and today the whole world is condemning this attack," he said.
Shah said that since 2014, the BJP government has built 9,500 bunkers in border areas, which saved many lives in the recent shelling.
