GGUWAHATI: The Border Security Force battalions has been dominating the eastern flanks effectively curbing trans-border crimes, infiltration and border violations, a BSF spokesman said today.

With the Force celebrating its Golden Jubilee on its 49th Raising Day, the spokesman was briefing the media.

He said to minimise/stop trans-border smuggling, the Guwahati Frontier of BSF in collaboration with the Central Public Works Department had undertaken construction of 'IBB' fence with 285.908 km of the sanctioned 317.032 Km already completed so far

The border guards were entrusted with guarding India's land border during peace time and preventing transnational crimes, the spokesman said

On its operational front the BSF apprehended 138 border criminals and illegal immigrants, including 76 Bangladeshis and 62 Indian nationals, seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) with face value of Rs 2,57,500 this year.

The force also seized 12,857 bottles of cough syrup Phensedyl which is misused as psychotropic drug, 728.35 Kg of Ganja and 7,471 cattle-heads.

During the year Civic Action Programmes, free medical camps on the border, blood donation camps, planting of 1,79,000 saplings by various BSF formations to save the environment, free training to youths belonging to the border belt for various jobs were also undertaken, the spokesman said.

As part of its philanthropic activities the BSF in collaboration with the Smile Train India carried a special drive in identifying the border population affected with cleft lip deformities resulting in the execution of 127 successful cleft lip surgeries, he said.

To celebrate the golden jubilee of its Raising Day, the Guwahati Frontier of the BSF along with the rest of the country organised a day long program today at its headquarters at Patgaon here inaugurated by S K Srivastava, Inspector General of Guwahati Frontier, he said.
