BSF launches new surveillance system to check infiltration

JAMMU: BSF has introduced a state-of-the-art Communication and Surveillance System, armed with bullet-proof bunker and high-end infrared cameras, along the Indo-Pakistan border in Jammu frontier to arrest cross-border infiltration.

"We have put in place the Communication and Surveillance System (CSS) along sensitive villages and riverine areas on the International Border," BSF Deputy Inspector General Virender Singh told PTI.

"This new system is being used to check infiltration of militants from across the border," he said.

The CCS, a ropeway system with a bullet-proof mobile bunker carrying high-resolution infrared cameras and high-end floodlights, would carry out surveillance on sensitive riverine areas - a preferred infiltration route in Hiranagar sector of Jammu frontier.

The ropeway system has motor-operated pulley-cables along which bullet-proof bunker runs, he said, adding that a bunker is fitted with eight infrared cameras, floodlights, mikes and other equipment.

"The cameras have 360-degree rotors manned from a control room by technical official of BSF," the DIG said. First such system has been installed in a riverine area and low-lying parts at the Bobiya Border Outpost (BoP) in this sector.

BSF has identified 19 sensitive and riverine areas and gaps along the 190-km International Border in Jammu frontier for installment of the facility.

"The entire project is prepared by our men. It is meant to deal with situation like fog and during night hours, when visibility is less... A company can move in that bullet proof bunker... There are also hooters and alarm system to ensure that there is no infiltration along the border," he said.

"The entire area will be illuminated through lights. The high-resolution cameras can even see through fog. The entire area will remain under close monitoring of our boys. The system is also fitted with small mikes which connect two bunkers and the central bullet-proof bunker," he said.

The system has been developed in just a month, Project Director commandant Jameel Ahmed said. After successful results, it would be installed in other riverine and sensitive areas as a fool-proof security measure, the DIG said.
