BS Yeddyurappa granted anticipatory bail

Karnataka HC today granted anticipatory bail to former CM Yeddyurappa in connection with some cases relating to alleged illegal denotification of land.

BANGALORE: Karnataka High Court today granted anticipatory bail to former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa in connection with some cases relating to alleged illegal denotification of land and illegalities in housing cooperative societies.

Justice V Jagannathan directed that he furnish a personal bond of Rs two lakh and does not leave the state or the country without prior permission of the court.

One of the observations made by the court while passing the order was that the petitioner had been granted anticipatory bail in similar cases of land denotification and in nowhere has there been complaint of his violating the bail conditions.

On July 5, the Lokayukta court had ordered issue of summons to Yeddyurappa, Congress leader D K Shivakumar and others on complaints filed by social activist T J Abraham and Kabbalegowda and adjourned the matter to August 2.

The four others named in the complaints are: Chandrashekhar (Revenue Inspector), Hanumanth (Tahsildar), Doddahanumaiah who have all now retired and Girish Puravankara (builder).

They have been charged under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1958, IPC and Karnataka Restriction of Transfer of Land Act 1991.
