Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, the BJP MP who defected to Samajwadi Party, was the main attraction at the dinner hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for UPA MPs ahead of the trust vote.

NEW DELHI: Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, the BJP MP who defected to Samajwadi Party, was the main attraction at the dinner hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for UPA MPs ahead of the trust vote.

Sharan Singh was the cynosure of all eyes when he was escorted by Amar Singh to The Asokha Hotel, the venue of the dinner, straight from a press conference announcing his defection.

Another attraction of the dinner was JMM chief Shibu Soren, who gave anxious times to the ruling coalition by delaying announcement of support. All four JMM MPs accompanied him.

Suspended DMK member Dayanidhi Maran, who announced support to the Government in Chennai this morning, rebel SP MP Raj Babbar, DMK's Kanimozhi and SP's S Bangarappa were among others who were present at the dinner.

PDP leaders Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and his daughter and MP Mehbooba Mufti and chief ministers of Assam (Tarun Gogoi), Andhra Pradesh (Y S Rajasekhara Reddy), Maharashtra (Vilasrao Deshmukh) and Haryana (Bhupinder Singh Hooda) also were present at the dinner besides several union ministers.
