Brand new Team Modi: Who gains, who misses out

Narendra Modi rejigged his cabinet for the third time in three years. Nine new faces joined the ministry whereas some of the old ministers were elevated to the cabinet level.

Here are the names of ministers who were awarded and the ones who were dropped from the Cabinet:

Now: Ministry of Railways
Previously: Ministry of State with Independent Charge for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines

Goyal has a clean image owing to his good track record in the Power and Coal ministry. He has been seen to have delivered scam-free auctions in coal and brought about a turnaround in production, ending days of persistent domestic short supplies that had led to higher imports.

Oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who has been spearheading the crucial petroleum portfolio in the Modi government as Minister of State (with independent charge) for over three years, has been promoted to the cabinet rank.

Pradhan has emerged as the party's face in Odisha and become one of its visible leaders as the party has highlighted the "success" of his ministry's scheme of giving free LPG connections to the poor in its political campaigns.

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari was on Sunday allocated portfolios of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.

Prabhu offered his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month after taking moral responsibility of the slew of accidents. He was not attending his Rail Bhavan office since August 23.

Only Union Minister from Telangana, Bandaru Dattatreya was the Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Labour and Employment. Dattatreya was dropped after the cabinet rejig.

Uma Bharati, who was in charge of prime Ganga rejuvenation and water resources portfolios, has been given charge of sanitation and drinking water.

This morning, Bharti did not attend the oath ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
